NATURAL RESOURCE MONITORING

Monitoring natural resources in our preserves provides the information we need to create and adapt our management priorities (and share their wonders!).

From comprehensive repeat photo monitoring that allows our team to assess qualitative landscape changes over time, to using camera traps and coverboards to document wildlife diversity and land use patterns, to tracking changes in growth and survivorship across over 300 tagged coast live oaks, to mapping invasive plant populations and management outcomes, VLT is committed to using data driven natural resources monitoring to guide our stewardship efforts.

In the spirit of ongoing inquiry, here are links to lists of species observed on our properties. You can help contribute to our biological inventories by adding photographic observations to iNaturalist.

BECOME A CITIZEN SCIENTIST

Help us document biodiversity in our preserves! Taking good quality photos and posting your observations of plants, fungi, insects, and other wildlife to iNaturalist is a great way to share the wonders you encounter–and maybe add species to our lists!

  • STEP ONE: Download the iNaturalist App and set up your account.

  • STEP TWO: Go outside! Take in the life around you–slow down, be curious, pay attention, and take photos.

  • STEP THREE: Upload your photos to iNaturalist. It will help you with IDs if you need them. Post your observation and we’ll see it on our end–thanks for your contributions!
